The Clayton neighborhood is located just north of the Skyland neighborhood and was annexed to Denver with Skyland under the Session Laws of 1883 and 1889. Skyland and Clayton are sometimes collectively referred to as North City Park. The neighborhood was named after the former George W. Clayton Trust College located at the intersection of MLK and Colorado Boulevards. The college campus is an historic district in the City and is listed on the National Registry of Historical Places.
Clayton is primarily a residential neighborhood with bungalows and ranch-style homes constructed in the middle of the 20th century. The lots in Clayton are larger than those in the Cole neighborhood to the west but slightly smaller than the average lots in Skyland. The Clayton neighborhood is an up-and-coming neighborhood in Denver offering relatively affordable housing options as well as easy accessibility to I-25, I-70, Downtown Denver and City Park.
