When Stapleton Airport in Denver closed, city officials went to work on the what to do with the newly vacant 7.5 square mile site. After 6 years of planning, the Stapleton Neighborhood was born. The City of Denver selected Forest City Enterprises as a partner and master developer of this mixed-use, sustainable community. The Stapleton neighborhood is all encompassing, it has plans for 12,000 single-family homes and apartments, 10 million sq of office space, 1.5 million sq of retail space, green space, 3 community swimming pools and educational establishments. At completion, the green space in Stapleton including parks, open space, dog parks, bike trails and a skate park, will total around 1,100 acres (over 30% of the entire development). Stapleton is and will be truly a great Denver neighborhood to live in!
